Motivation Monday: Is Jesus Asleep On the Job?

An excerpt from my book Breaking the Limitations under the chapter Obtaining the Miraculous:

“Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said into them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled [with water], and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and
there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. Luke 8:22-25 KJV

In these short 3 verses, what can we learn about walking in the miraculous?

God knows what He is doing, even if you think He’s sleeping “on the job”

In Matthew’s account of the same event we learn that one Word from God can change your life. One Word can inspire us to take a leap of faith and walk toward Him in the realms of the unknown and do something we never even dreamed of doing. We can do something completely impossible for us to do on our own on just one word.
Here, Jesus gave them a command. They were to go over to the other side of the lake. He was so exhausted from ministering all day long He went to sleep. This boat wasn’t a huge boat with decks below. It was a small open boat, so there’s little doubt He was soaked. And yet, it didn’t disturb Him at all.

A few things come to mind about Jesus sleeping:

** To receive the maximum benefits of sleep, according to modern medicine, it has to be deep. God promises to grant His beloved sleep. That the sleep will be sweet, any time of day or night. If you are having trouble sleeping in your storm, take the Word as Medicine before you go to bed. Don’t allow the enemy to rob you of what God has provided. Even good sleep!

** Jesus already gave a command and expected the disciples to follow it. The authority was in their hands. If God has given you a command, the authority has been given to you to accomplish it. He is with you. He promised to never leave you nor forsake you.

** It was when the disciples were “in deep water” that Jesus showed His wonders. Do you feel like you are in deep water? In over your head? Good. Then you are in the right place for a miracle in your life!”

I hope this little excerpt inspires and reminds you that you are a great treasure to God and that He is not asleep at the wheel. He is not disturbed by the storms around you. He walks on top of them with ease!

So take the time and go to Him today. Keep your eyes on Him and you to can walk all over the storms in your life and be more than a conqueror.

May all your days be like days of heaven on the earth.
